Reference material, Links

The following is reference material that I believe is important and would be very helpful to anyone who wants to learn a lot more about the mineral kingdom and/or its metaphysical aspects. Most of this material can be obtained from metaphysical and some regular bookstores in your area. Have also included links to these items, if there was an individual website it is listed, otherwise the graphic button link will be to the Amazon.com. listing.

link to TAOMCHIIn 1995 had the wonderful learning opportunity to participate in some very special crystal workshops and was extremely fortunate they were, at that time, conducted by the author of the reference material just below. Received a certificate of Master of Crystalogy from my attendence and that is how I chose my cyber name of Crystalmaster.

Melody is an internationally known and bestselling author of several reference works... her series of books:

"Love is in the Earth", a kaleidoscope of crystals"
is one of the most, if not "the most", comprehensive reference to the metaphysical aspects of minerals and gemstones that is available. The updated version covers over 90 minerals beginning with the letter A alone and not only does it go from A thru Z ... there is a large section devoted to the special configurations of quartz crystals, that I have called Master crystals. Some books in this series also have photos so you will be able to identify a mineral that you may not have been able to see elsewhere. They also cover other information that is invaluable to the beginning, as well as, seasoned metaphyscian. These reference books belong at the top of any want list, if you do not already have them.

The word magic in its title should be read as intent, because there is nothing supernatural about the material presented by this author, whose writing style, is down-to-earth and very easy to follow.

Scott Cunningham was a master herbalist, with over thirty non-fiction and fiction books to his credit... his book:

"Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Crystal, Gem & Metal Magic"
not only covers many gems and photos, but also major metals. It also contains rituals of visualization, ancient lore, elemental & plantary tables for gemstones and a large bibliography to other souces that would provide plenty of additional study. Would also recommend his books on Herbs and Aromatherapy that are also available from this link.

While composing this list was saddened to discover that Scott, who was born in 1956, had passed away in 1993...the year that I added the Aromatherapy book to my library of his books...he and his writings will be missed.

link to AmazonThis book was recommended to me, as having a description of an Isis Master crystal, that I already owned and didn't know about. Was pleasantly surprise that in addition to six Master crystals, that were new to me, it also covered some of my favorite colored gemstones that the author calls "more important healing stones"

Katrina Raphaell is known as a leading authority in the crystal field, with her own academy for teaching crystal healing ... her book:

"The Crystalline Transmission, a synthesis of light"
is the third of a trilogy of books devoted to crystal work. This book also has section covering four minerals, that she grouped as "predominate power stones". In addition to several other topics, this book explains a twelve chakra system, with emphasis on the higher planes of conscienceness. The other two books in this series are on my definate want list.

link to AmazonWritten around the turn of the last century, this book has been on my bookshelf a long time (but not quite that long...lol). It was authored by the man who discovered the mineral that bears his name, the beautiful translucent lavendar "Kunzite".

George Fredrick Kunz was a noted American gemmologist and long consultant to Tiffany & Co. ... his book:

"The curious lore of precious stones"
is filled with ancient legends, traditions, talismanic and other descriptions about many gemstones. Though written in the style of its time... it is, none the less, very informative. There are pictures & art throughout, even some color plates. It discuses planetary & astral influences, horoscope charts ...even eye stones and the breastplate of the high priest are covered. Am sure this book can be found in the reference list of many modern authors.

LJ websiteThere are numerous books on gemology and/or rock collecting...lest this page scroll on and on, have put in a website link to the trade magazine "Lapidary Journal" where you will find a wealth of sources, not only for reading, but places to find your gemstones. Or pick up a current issue at a bookstore...you will not be disappointed.
